Horseback Riding Summer Camps
Ages 7 - 12
"Taking the Reins"
During the first hour riders will learn how to take care of a horse through proper safety, grooming, riding and tacking up a horse. Riders will also learn how to hand walk their horse, mount/ dismount and steer them around an enclosed arena. There will be a horse show on the last day to celebrate what they have accomplished. This instruction will be provided by certified riding horse instructor Odessa Merten.
During the second hour of the riding session, students will participate in the following horse activities. This instruction will be provided by ONHS Art Teacher Christina Hyde.
$270 for 6 days/session/person. Participants must register and attend all 6 classes.
All classes are exempt from the family fee cap and reduced rate.
All classes take place at Glen Valley Farm, 2561 Vinland Road, Oshkosh. Riders should arrive at Glen Valley Farm ready to ride. They should feel comfortable with and be respectful towards large animals. Each riding student should wear long pants (no capris or shorts) and rain boots/gym shoes with socks (no open toed shoes or sandals). This prevents blisters that can be caused by the saddle rubbing while riding. Participants must also wear a helmet. They can either bring their own bike helmet or a helmet will be provided.
Participants should enter the derby barn upon arrival at Glen Valley Farm.
