Activities available to adults who are 50 years of age or older. Available on a drop-in basis.

 Shuffleboard Tournaments

October 24, 2019 and March 5, 2020

 Open to all adults 50+. Tournaments will be offered in a win-lose bracket format. Refreshments and prizes will be given.

Entry forms will be available approximately one month prior to the event date at the ORD Office. A $3.00 entry fee will apply per event.

Activity Center / Open Gym

The Activity Centers listed below are available at the designated times. The activity centers are open gyms available to Oshkosh Area School District residents on a drop-in basis. Activities available are basketball, volleyball, and jogging unless specifically indicated.

Adult Basketball

Adult evening basketball leagues available to all residents in the Oshkosh Area School District. League play is offered Wednesday and Thursday nights. Different levels of competition are available on each night of play.

Basketball Officials and Scorer Positions Available

Adult Cribbage League

The Adult Cribbage League competes on Tuesday evenings beginning October 8, 2019 through March 17, 2020.

This is a six to ten team league with team entries accepted on a limited basis. Returning teams are given priority for entry with new teams accepted on an as needed basis. The league is currently seeking new teams. A team must consist of a minimum of six players. Individuals interested in playing may contact the Recreation Department for assistance with being placed on a team, however; placement is not guaranteed.

The cribbage league plays a round-robin schedule. The season concludes with the annual “Fun Night” competition. Awards are provided to league champions through league funds.

The Adult Cribbage League is governed by elected officials and administered by the Recreation Department. The election of officers occurs during the annual “Fun Night” competition. This league has been competing for over sixty years!

FEES:   $30.00 Team Registration
            $12.00 per team per night (collected on night of play of $2.00/player)

Adult Exercise

FEES: Participants 16 & Older $3.25 per class

Participants must purchase a punch card before attending a class. Cards are available for purchase at the ORD office and on-site at the class location. Cards will only be sold BEFORE class at the on-site locations. Payment by check is preferred. Cash payments must have exact change. A maximum of 30 classes may be purchased per card. The card may be used at any of the listed classes. Participants can join a class at any time.

NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED FOR ANY REASON, INCLUDING LOST/STOLEN WORKOUT CARDS.

NEW CARDS ARE VALID FROM : SEPTEMBER 1, 2019 THROUGH AUGUST 31, 2020. CARDS FROM SUMMER 2019, OR PRIOR ARE NOT VALID.

Note: On days when public schools are closed due to bad weather, all classes will be cancelled. On days when public schools have a two hour delay, only morning classes will be cancelled.

Adult Softball

Adult evening softball leagues available to all residents living in the Oshkosh Area School District. Residents in Winnebago County are also eligible to participate in recreation leagues that play at the Winnebago County Park Softball Complex.

Information regarding the 2020 season will be available in January/February.  League play begins Sunday, April 26, 2020 (Tentative).

Leagues offered are:

  • Men’s Slow Pitch - Sunday through Thursday,
  • Women’s Slow Pitch - Monday,
  • Men’s Veteran’s Slow Pitch (35 years +) – Wednesday,
  • Men’s Veteran’s Slow Pitch (45 years +) – Monday,
  • Co-ed Slow Pitch – Thursday

 

Ballroom Dance Lessons

This program offers adults (18 and older) an opportunity to learn as beginners several partner dance steps such as the waltz, fox trot and swing. Other steps may be taught if time permits. Sign up today and learn to dance the night away!

Participants must register with a partner to form a couple for the lessons. Please wear some type of comfortable, casual or dress shoe that will “slide” easily on the floor surface.

FEES: Resident: $65/Person Non-Resident: $70/Person

Community Walking Program

The Oshkosh Area School District is offering a Community Walking Program beginning in November and continuing through mid April at West High School. Individuals may walk the halls of a designated path at the school.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:30pm
at West High School (when school is in session)

A map of the walking route will be provided. Participants should wear a comfortable walking shoe. Winter boots will not be allowed on the walking path.

An additional walking opportunity is available at the Recreation Gym, 425 Division Street.

Weekdays from 7:30 – 8:00 AM and 1:00 – 2:00 PM
(when the ORD office is open and the gym is available)

There is no charge for this program but participants must register in advance at the Recreation Department and receive an identification badge.

(When school is cancelled due to the weather, the program will also be cancelled for the day – Please note that when there is a 2 inch or more snowfall overnight, snow plowing will be occurring in the school parking lots).

Discover SCUBA

Ages: 10+

Students will have an opportunity to learn some basic scuba skills, play in the water implementing skills taught and will even get their photo taken underwater. This is a great way to be introduced to scuba diving without the expense. Participants should be comfortable in the water and in good health. This class is taught by a certified Scuba instructor.

FEES: $25 Resident/$30 Non-Resident   This class is exempt from the family fee cap and reduced rate.

Golf Lessons (Beginner Adults)

Instruction includes proper mechanics of all golf strokes and etiquette of the game. Classes are held outdoors, weather permitting, at a local golf club and driving range.  Participants are encouraged to provide their own golf clubs. Some clubs may be provided if needed.

FEES: Resident: $48.00
          Non-Resident: $51.00
         (Golf ball rental will also be assessed at outdoor local golf club).

Resident registration begins Monday, November 25, 2019.

Golf Lessons (Intermediate Adults)

These lessons are designed for the individual who has already experienced playing the game of golf and wishes to improve their overall performance. Lessons will be held outdoors at Oakgreen Golf Course. Participants should have completed beginner lessons or the equivalent. All participants are encouraged to provide their own clubs. Some clubs may be provided if needed.

FEES: Resident: $43.00
          Non-Resident: $45.00
          (Golf ball rental will also be assessed at outdoor local golf club.)

Oshkosh Area Community Band

The Oshkosh Area Community Band is available to all interested post-high school adults. During the summer season, they welcome high school students who will be either a junior or a senior in the Fall to participate in their summer performances. The band is under the direction of Mr. Dave Berndt.

The year round band rehearses every Monday evening from 7:00-8:30 PM in the West High School band room (ecept holidays and the month of August).

The Oshkosh Area Community Band performs several times during the year. Some of the performances include: Fall Concert, Oshkosh Holiday Parade, Community Christmas Sing-a-long, Spring Concert, Veteran’s Home at King, four “Concerts In the Park”, and Oshkosh 4th of July Parade.

This band also has two active auxiliary performance groups, a full stage/swing band and a Dixieland band. These bands are under the direction of the assistant band director, Jon Basten

Oshkosh Choraliers

The Choraliers are a mixed chorus made up of adults living in the Oshkosh Area who enjoy music and singing in a choral group format. They are under the direction of Mary Backus, a retired music teacher. The group rehearses weekly from January through May and presents a spring concert for the public as well as selected performances during the year.

A small membership fee is required, administered by the Oshkosh Choraliers Board of Directors.

Rehearsals will be held on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30PM, beginning January to May, 2020. Rehearsals are primarily held in the choir room of Oshkosh West High School and Christ Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.

The 2020 concert will be held on Saturday, May 2nd at the Alberta Kimball Auditorium.

Padi Open Water Scuba Course

Divers RealmLearning to scuba dive is an adventure of a lifetime. This course provides you with the basic knowledge needed to start scuba diving. Students should be in good health, comfortable in the water and able to swim. As part of the class, students will need to complete a 200 yard swim and a tread/float in deep water for 10 minutes. Class is comprised of classroom and in water pool training.

For final certification, 4 open water dives (lake or ocean) must be done with a PADA Instructor. Your instructor can give you a referral form if you would like to do the dives on a tropical vacation. The dives can also be scheduled with your instructor here in Wisconsin. Cost will depend upon where you do your dives. There will be home study components as well.

Students will receive a letter from the instructor a few weeks before class is to begin to give specific instructions on picking up class materials and items needed for class. This class is taught by a certified scuba instructor. Questions regarding class content may be directed to Diver’s Realm, 920-831-0126.

FEES:

Course Only:  $190 Resident / $195 Non-Resident   This offering is exempt from the family fee cap and reduced rate.

Training materials fee is approximately $125. This fee will be paid to Diver’s Realm at the time materials are picked up.

Cost for certification dives will depend upon where you do your dives.

Pickleball

Ages: 45+

Provides plenty of exercise, eye-hand coordination and you do not have to be “super athletic” to play. This is a game of strategy, for both men and women of all ages. For more information on Pickleball, visit: USAPA.org.

Open play is designed as “drop-in” play. If you don’t know how to play, we will show you! You come when you can, leave when you must.

Tennis shoes need to be worn. Racquets and balls will be provided.

Fees:

Resident: $20.00 per session
Non-Resident: $25.00 per session

This class is exempt from Family Fee Cap and reduced rate.

Shuffleboard Tournaments

Tae Kwon Do

This class is available to boys and girls and adults. Participants will learn discipline, respect, self-confidence and self-defense. Comfortable clothing is recommended. Youth participants must be a minimum of 7 years of age as of first day of program.

Water Aerobics

Cardiovascular conditioning and spot toning done in water. This class offers less stress on the joints and back. You do not have to swim to enjoy this class.

Pool temperature and maintenance is regulated by the high school maintenance staff, not the ORD.

Note: The water temperature at North High Schooll is maintained between 78°F-80°F within state health code standards to accommodate all user groups. Please keep this in mind when attending our classes.
