When is this offered?: School Year

The elementary orchestra (strings) program is available to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who would like to learn how to play the violin, viola, or cello. Students learn to develop their ear (listening, evaluation, tuning), read music, develop self-discipline, poise, and self-confidence through performance, follow directions, function in a group, plan their time, and realize the joy of making music with the special sound of strings. The students perform three concerts throughout the school year. The program begins October 3, 2022 and continues through May 19, 2023.

Students must provide a string instrument. There are several music stores that rent string instruments. Names of music stores and rental information will be provided at a later time. For those families on free/reduced lunch, there is the option of renting from the school district.

Group lessons are held once a week after school for 45 minutes. Parents can choose any location that best fits their child and family’s needs. There are no lessons on days that school is not in session.

NOTE: Classes may be combined in the event of low enrollment for any given class.

Special Note: There will be a teacher demonstration at the beginning of the year at all of the elementary schools for the students to choose an instrument that they would like to learn how to play.

These demonstrations are scheduled for Thursday, September 8 and Friday, September 9.  Please check your school calendar for further details.

There will also be an evening meeting for the parents and students for measuring instrument size, rental information and final class placement. These evening meetings are scheduled as follows:

  • Tuesday, September 13 - Webster Stanley Middle School Auditorium – 6:30 PM.
  • Thursday, September 15 - Traeger Elementary School. Cafeteria – 6:30 PM.

(You need to only attend one of these meetings)
