The Oshkosh Recreation Department is excited to offer our community the opportunity to participate in our youth basketball league! The youth league is a non-competitive league whose goal is to teach the fundamentals to provide children of any experience level the opportunity to learn basketball in a fun, caring environment. We are committed to providing you and your child a positive youth sports experience that will hopefully develop a passion and a lifelong enjoyment of the game. We are firm believers that family balance is essential to building strong youth in our community and by following a core set of values, we are confident that your child will be asking you for more!

How will teams be determined?  We will start by dividing teams up by school location first, then fill in the gaps based on a geographical location. There won’t be a “draft” and each child is guaranteed to play at least 50% of the time, all of the time!  Transportation is not provided.

Who will coach the teams?  Our sports leagues will rely on great volunteer coaches. Many times a parent, guardian, relative, or sibling (who is 21 years of age or older) will typically fill these roles. We will provide each of the coaches with lesson plans that you can work and build off of each week.

What is the focus of this league? Our leagues will be about skill development, building confidence, friendships, and teamwork.  When surveyed, 9 out of 10 kids say having fun is their #1 reason to play sports, not winning, and we will follow this model from day 1. Your child can expect to have one scheduled practice per week, and we will strive to have consistent games times and locations so you know what to expect. At no time will your child be expected to travel out of the Oshkosh Area School District.
