The Oshkosh Recreation Department is excited to offer our community the opportunity to participate in our youth basketball league! The youth league is a non-competitive league whose goal is to teach the fundamentals to provide children of any experience level the opportunity to learn basketball in a fun, caring environment. We are committed to providing you and your child a positive youth sports experience that will hopefully develop a passion and a lifelong enjoyment of the game.
How will teams be determined? We will start by dividing teams up by school location first, then fill in the gaps. Each child is guaranteed to play at least 50% of the time! Transportation is not provided. In the event there are too many players from the same school for one team, two teams will be created dividing the number of players registered.
Team Commitment? Your team and your coach need you to attend all practices and games. Roster sizes are based on a commitment to the team.
Who will coach the teams? Our sports leagues will rely on great volunteer coaches. Many times a parent, guardian, relative, or sibling (who is 21 years of age or older) will typically fill these roles. We will provide each of the coaches with lesson plans that you can work and build off of each week.
What is the focus of this league? Our leagues are about skill development, building confidence, friendships, and teamwork. Your child can expect to have one scheduled practice per week. Games will be scored but there will be no league standings and no awards. Your child will not be expected to travel out of the Oshkosh Area School District.

Game Dates for ALL GRADES (Location and Time TBA) Saturdays: January 18 and 25. February 1, 8, 15 and 22. March 1 and 8.
Practice Dates for 1st-2nd Grade (Location and Time TBA) Monday Practice: January 6, 13 and 27. February 3, 10, 17 and 24. March 3. Practices generally at 6:00pm or 7:00pm.
Practice Dates for 3rd-4th Grade (Location and Time TBA) Tuesday Practice: January 7, 14, 21 and 28. February 4, 11, 18 and 25. March 4. Practices generally at 6:00pm or 7:00pm.
Practice Dates for 5th-6th Grade (Location and Time TBA) Thursday Practice: January 9, 16, 23 and 30. February 6, 13, 20 and 27. March 6. Practices generally at 6:00pm or 7:00pm.
Mandatory Coach Meeting: Tuesday, December 17 at 6:00 PM at the Recreation Department Office. Coaches will first receive a team roster the night of December 17. The coach will then make contact with players on the roster. Volunteer coaches are approved by the Oshkosh Recreation Department by completing a satisfactory criminal background report.
