The elementary orchestra program is available to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to learn how to play the violin, viola, or cello. Music learning is great training for both body and brain with your child learning to play Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Ode to Joy, and even Star Wars after only a few months of classes. Students will also perform three concerts throughout the school year.
The program begins September 28th, 2026 and continues through April 30th, 2027. Students must provide a string instrument in the appropriate size available from local music stores. Rental information will be provided at the September parent meetings. For those families on free/reduced lunch, there is the option of renting from the school district.
Group lessons are held once a week after school for 45 minutes. Parents choose the location that best fits their family schedule with the option of changing classes if needed. There are no lessons on days that school is not in session.
Elementary Ensemble is for our 2nd and 3rd year players. This will be a mix of all 3 instruments (Violin, Viola, and Cello) in one class working on independence of parts and continuing our musical journey
Special Note: There will be a teacher demonstration at the beginning of the year at all of the elementary schools for the students to choose an instrument that they would like to learn how to play. These demonstrations are scheduled for September 10th & 11th. Please check your school calendar for further details.
There will also be an evening meeting for the parents and students for measuring instrument size, rental information and final class placement. These evening meetings are scheduled as follows:
- September 15 - Vel Phillips Middle School Atrium – 6:30 PM.
- September 17 - Traeger Elementary School. Cafeteria – 6:30 PM.
